The European Investment Bank (EIB, the EU’s investment-financing bank) will lend Moldova €150 million (about $168 million) under the “Livada Moldovei II” programme. The money is to fund modern equipment, storage, processing and logistics at every stage of the chain, from farms and orchards to distribution. Part will go to public investment in agricultural education, research and food-safety infrastructure.
Farmers, agri-food businesses and rural entrepreneurs can benefit. The loan is backed by an EU guarantee and is part of the EU Growth Plan for Moldova. The first phase of the programme had supported more than 500 agricultural investment projects by 2025. “Moldova’s farmers and food producers have the ambition and know-how to compete in European markets,” said Agriculture Minister Eugeniu Osmochescu.
An important detail: the EIB release gives no interest rates, terms or eligibility criteria, and does not say whether companies with foreign capital can take part. For investors in Moldovan agriculture, the programme could mean cheaper financing for modernisation — the application rules are worth watching.
