Uzbekistan: target — USD 500 million in annual fertiliser exports to the EU

Tashkent wants to more than double fertiliser sales to the EU and has signed its first contract with France.

Uzbekistan's Ministry of Investment, Industry and Trade announced a target of gradually increasing mineral fertiliser exports to the EU to USD 500 million a year. In 2025, EU countries bought USD 233.5 million worth of fertilisers from Uzbekistan (UN Comtrade data — the United Nations trade statistics database).

On 17 September, at the SPACE 2026 trade fair in Rennes, state-owned Uzkimyoimpeks signed an agreement with France's Eudaira to supply 10,000 tonnes of fertilisers by the end of 2026 — urea, ammonium nitrate (nitrogen fertilisers) and superphosphate (a phosphate fertiliser). Uzkimyoimpeks is the Uzkimyosanoat group's sole export agent, so contracts go through a single state-run “window”.

An important detail: since 1 July 2025, nitrogen fertilisers from Russia and Belarus have been subject to a 6.5% EU duty and a charge of EUR 40–45 per tonne (approximately USD 45–50), rising to EUR 430 per tonne (approximately USD 480) in 2028. Uzbekistan offers precisely the products Europe is using to replace supplies from the East. However, the USD 500 million target has no deadline, and the first contract is small.
