Uzbekistan: $202 million from the Islamic Development Bank for farm mechanisation

The bank will fully finance a project to give farmers easier access to modern machinery.

15 October 2026

The Islamic Development Bank (IsDB, a multilateral development bank of Muslim-majority countries) and the government of Uzbekistan signed a $202 million agreement for an agricultural mechanisation project that the bank will finance in full. The aim is to make modern, energy-efficient, climate-adapted machinery available to farmers. The deal was signed in Bangkok during the World Bank and IMF annual meetings (12–18 October).

A day earlier, on 14 October, Agriculture Minister Ibrokhim Abdurakhmonov discussed new grant projects for 2026–2028 with the Vice President of IFAD (the UN’s International Fund for Agricultural Development) in Italy, covering mechanisation, artificial intelligence and drones in farming.

An important detail: capital is flowing into Uzbek agriculture faster and faster — in the first half of 2026, foreign investment and loans in agriculture, forestry and fisheries reached about $2.2 billion, up about 54% year on year. The IsDB loan terms (interest rate, repayment period) and the implementing agency have not yet been disclosed.
