Since July 2026, Kazakhstan has imposed a partial ban on wheat imports — a measure aimed primarily at grey imports of Russian grain, which were driving down domestic prices. On 2 August, the Ministry of Agriculture approved a list of wheat importers: only companies included on this list may now import wheat.
For an investor and trader, this is a key regulatory fact: market access has become permission-based rather than notification-based. Counterparty verification must now include checking whether the company appears on the list.
The price reference point: wheat in Kazakhstan remains at around 100,000 tenge per tonne (≈ 173 euros). Optimal carry-over stocks into September are estimated at 2–2.5 million tonnes, so strong pressure from the new harvest on prices is not expected.
